As one of the country’s largest Motorsports series, the MX Nationals will tremendously boost the local economy by over $400,000 as race team personnel, riders and thousands of fans alike have migrated to Coolum beach for the traditional week long holiday between last weeks round at Moree and the series final at Coolum.
MX Nationals series promoter Kevin Williams expressed his enthusiasm to be back at Coolum for the annual series final event.
“It’s always great to be back at Coolum for the week leading into the series final. This weekend of racing culminates a years worth of hard work from the riders and teams along with our full time staff that help promote and manage the event. With the tightest points chase in MX Nationals history coming into Coolum, the THOR MX1 championship battle is going down to the final race, you don’t want to miss history in the making as a new champion is crowned!”
In THOR MX1 the Championship is now down to a two horse race as DPH Husqvarna’s Todd Waters dominated at Moree last weekend, taking advantage of CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Luke Clout unfortunate fall in the opening moto and Racline KTM Thor’s Hayden Mellross leg injury. The two have traded the coveted championship leader red plate over the second half of the series and now Waters holds a two point advantage heading into the venue he is renowned for being so strong at. With the points this close, it’s coming down to whoever wins at Coolum will win the championship!
In Pirelli MX2, DPH Husqvarna’s Wilson Todd continues to lead the championship with consistent finishes at Moree, a third overall was enough to take huge advantage over Penrite Pirelli CRF Racing’s Kyle Webster’s struggles at the NSW circuit. Todd now enjoys a eighteen point lead heading into the Coolum venue where he claimed the title in 2018. Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson and Serco Yamaha’s Nathan Crawford, almost out of the championship chase, will look for moto wins and to steal the championship celebration spotlight away from Wilson Todd.
Motul MXD will showcase the up and coming talent as emerging superstar Raceline KTM Thor’s Regan Duffy looks to claim his first MX Nationals title at the Coolum circuit.
